Billion Group (3027) formally established Billion Electric Japan CO., LTD. in Tokyo, Japan, in 2024. With over 50 years of expertise in communication technology and power supply manufacturing, Billion Group has recently launched a series of MIT (Made in Taiwan) solar inverters, energy storage systems, and DC/AC charging stations under its brand. In partnership with local Japanese companies, Billion Group aims to leverage its extensive experience in developing and integrating Taiwan’s front-of-meter energy storage systems, focusing on high-voltage feeders. The company plans to complete five grid-connected power plants by 2025 and participate in Japan’s power trading market.
Bringing Stable Power Generation and High Energy Efficiency to Japan
Since 2009, Japan has promoted solar power and, by 2023, had an installed capacity of 69.35GW, accounting for 10.8% of its total power generation. As a nation that began early development of energy storage technology, Japan aims to increase renewable energy to over 50% by 2030. Moving from subsidies for home-based disaster-prevention storage systems, Japan is now implementing policies for grid-connected energy storage plants (known locally as system-use storage facilities). As the first nation in the Asia-Pacific region to achieve electricity liberalization, Japan’s grid-connected storage plants can engage in multiple markets, including the demand-supply adjustment market managed by the Transmission and Distribution Grid Council (TDGC), the capacity market overseen by the Organization for Cross-regional Coordination of Transmission Operators (OCCTO), and the JEPX wholesale electricity market. Additionally, commercial users with behind-the-meter storage systems can optimize power costs by utilizing peak and off-peak price arbitrage and participate in the demand-supply adjustment market, enhancing the investment value of energy storage equipment.
Billion group debuted its MIT energy generation and storage solutions at RX Japan’s Smart Energy Week 2024, held from February 28 to March 1. Billion Group exhibited a comprehensive lineup of solar inverters ranging from single-phase 3kW-6kW and three-phase 40kW-60kW grid-connected systems, hybrid single-phase and three-phase storage systems, industrial All-In-One storage solutions, grid-scale energy management systems, and customized battery solutions for OEM/ODM clients. These key energy devices offer a complete solution for the Japanese market.
Billion Group’s Japanese subsidiary further showcased its network communication solutions at COMNEXT 2024, held from June 28 to June 30 at Tokyo Big Sight. Demonstrating its customization capabilities, Billion Group presented three major Local 5G solutions tailored for Japan, including applications for trains, corporate offices, and smart transportation. Products such as the M300, 8235, and 8355P were specifically designed for the Japanese market. In particular, the CPE products feature 5G wireless TSN and slicing capabilities, making them ideal solutions for telecom operators and network managers.
Tim Chen, Chairman of Billion Electric, highlighted the group’s competitive edge in battery manufacturing and system integration, refined through years of technical expertise and field experience. This year, Billion Group has further established an office and operational base in Kawasaki City, featuring a product display area, office space, and an assembly and testing area for energy storage systems for engineers. This setup reflects the group’s commitment to establishing a strong presence in Japan, developing advanced communication and solar charging and storage products tailored to Japanese clients, and providing localized technical support services.
